Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery on facing Spurs: "Similar like us, but their potential is huge. They signed a lot of very good players. But they need time to get everything compact. And to achieve understanding their idea.

"De Zerbi is a fantastic manager. He played fantastic football here and performed fantastic here in Brighton. He did a fantastic job before as well in Italy and Marseille. They are getting better. They compete fantastic, even losing against Liverpool.

"Facing them is a difficult match. Of course, being very demanding defensively for us. Tottenham, I expect them to be in the top four."

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery on playing in the Premier League: "It is the most difficult league in the world. There are teams, after they are promoted, they have the possibility to spend money and sign good players. And you are playing against every team and it's very difficult.

"I am demanding myself and I am realistic myself. And I can understand other teams as well. And the balance is very difficult for every team. But of course, there are some teams that are contended and favoured to be in the top six, top seven, top five, top four. And one of them is Tottenham. But not this year. Another year before as well, they were contended. At the end, they weren't performing for different reasons. But there are clearly six teams contended to be in the top six."

Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery on team news: "We have so many players injured it is difficult to mention everyone. But Marco Asensio is out, Amadou Onana, Modou Cisse is out, Pau Torres and Ian Maatsen are out, Leon Goretzka is out, Brian Madjo is out.

"Of course, now we want our performance quick through the players we joined. Johan Manzambi, Matteo Ruggeri, Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Young players like Ibrahim Mbaye. George Hemmings and Brian Madjo. Yes, we want it. But we must try to compete and be passionate. Until now, they have not been good enough in the Premier League.

"We are involved in different competitions. And we are performing differently for the demands and for how we are in our process. In the Premier League, we had a lack of good results, a lack of enough performance collectively and even individually. But we are lack of the process to build the team as well. And hopefully tomorrow, we'll watch the team improving."

It’s surely no coincidence that one of the sides to have gone through one of the biggest squad upheavals over the summer has made such sluggish starts to the campaign.

Aston Villa rank 20th and last in the Premier League for expected goals this season with their tally of 3.39 marginally worse than opponents Tottenham, while only Hull have had fewer touches in the opposition’s box than the Villans’ 62.

At least Villa did open their top-flight goalscoring account in their draw with Nottingham Forest last Saturday.

Sunderland

Sunderland boss Regis le Bris has provided a team news update: "Reinildo is suspended [following his red card against Arsenal last weekend], so we will have to see who comes in at left-back. Dayann Methalie is one of the options, but let's see."

It is thought that Romaine Mundle (knee) and Habib Diarra (hamstring) are still unavailable, although there will be another training session before the game.

On having plenty of players waiting in the wings for an opportunity: "We made four changes for our fixture against AZ Alkmaar and we have the option to make three, four or five changes to start with against Manchester City. We will also need to call on some substitutes throughout the game as well to finish things off. It is the reality of the level we're at now."

Two news conferences remain today, and they are Sunderland and Aston Villa.

Everton

Everton boss David Moyes on Jarrad Branthwaite's inclusion in the England squad: "I'm really pleased for anybody who gets selected for their country. Jarrad even more so because of the injuries that he's had but I was hearing that he's only got one England cap and it was only 25 or 27 minutes or something. I hope he doesn’t play four games that’s for sure but I'd be thrilled if Jarrad gets in and he's got potential to be a really good player and is showing lots of that at the moment."

Everton boss David Moyes on team news: "We’re still waiting on Harrison [Armstrong] a little bit to see how he is, we expect him to be OK.

"Merlin Rohl is not available yet, hopefully he’ll be ready at the end of the international break."

Ipswich Town

Gary O'Neil on losing his dad this week: "The last 24 hours have been tough, but I have been separating things. I have managed to be there for the family and the team so of course the mourning and the memories of my dad will continue over the next few days, but full focus is on what we need to do here and the team have been great, the club have been great.

"I appreciate everyone’s support. A tough few days but as life does, we need to move on but I am looking forward to taking the club to a big game tomorrow."

Ipswich Town

More from Ipswich manager Gary O'Neil, on Azor Matusiwa potential return: "We are just waiting for him to get enough reps in training for him to get comfortable. He is doing everything in training and is doing 11 v 11 with the guys on the grass but he has been out quite a while, so we don’t need to throw him back in, we have lots of midfielders and lots of players fit.

"We are trying to find the right moment to get him back in the team. He is available tomorrow we haven’t decided if he will play a part in it."

On Emersonn Correia da Silva: "All fine and all good. It has been another good week for him. Things have settled down with the tight quad he had, and the game in the week helped him. He is available."

Ipswich Town

Ipswich manager Gary O'Neil on team news: "Everyone is fit apart from Jack Taylor, he is really close though, so the international break comes at a good time.

"As football normally does, it will throw up some new challenges, if it doesn’t we should be a fully fit squad."

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace boss Pierre Sage on whether the three-week international break comes at a good time for his side, after a mixed start to the season: "I'm not happy about it because I wanted to continue to work with my players, but it might be good for some of the players to go off and play in another context.

"The best way for us to leave this block of fixtures with a good mindset is to get a win on Sunday against Leeds United.

"We will let the players recover a little bit over the break so that they come back fresh. We all know how busy the schedule is from now until Christmas, so sometimes doing less is more. The best way to be in shape for that period is to recover and then prepare wall afterwards."

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace boss Pierre Sage on having Ismaila Sarr, who has been out of action all season with a groin injury, back in the fold: "It is always difficult to come back after a long injury, but the most important thing for us was putting him on the pitch and giving him his first minutes. He will get better and better with more time out there. If he can do what he did last season, his return will be very positive for the team.

"He can maybe start on Sunday, but I don't think he can play the full match."

On him receiving some boos from a section of the fans: "It is normal because everybody here thought he would leave this summer but, now he has made his comeback, I would to think everybody is happy to see him back on the pitch. I know the fans do love him and I think he deserves to be loved the way he is. We should all enjoy his goals and assists with him."

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace boss Pierre Sage started off by providing an injury update on Dean Henderson and Jean-Philippe Mateta: "Henderson's situation is a bit more certain than Mateta's situation. We'll have to wait to see on both of them, I'll be able to give a better answer in two weeks. I also want a quick answer on both of them, but I cannot give any real update as yet. The most important thing right now is looking after them so they can return as quickly as possible."

He also provided some more context around Cheick Doucoure missing out on the matchday squad for their Europa League opener: "It isn't an injury, he just isn't in our European squad list. We have a little problem with that because we don't have too many players in his position currently available, with four players out injured off our squad list.

"It wasn't easy to make the choices but I had to and we can maybe look at changing the list in January if we qualify for the knockouts. All in all, he cannot play in the Europa League but he can play in the Premier League."

Leeds host Crystal Palace, who have just one win in the league but are fresh off their 4-0 thrashing of Lech Poznan in the Europa League.

Leeds United

Leeds boss Daniel Farke on Dominic Calvert-Lewin's fine early season form earning him a recall to the England squad:

"Yes, fully deserved. A perfect start to the new season. He's scored goals, has delivered performances. He's played with a good confidence and is in a good rhythm. He definitely deserves this call-up."

On whether Calvert-Lewin has stepped up from last season: "It's obviously a different scenario. He came to us after difficult seasons with injuries and needed to find his rhythm and confidence back. He has got his confidence back and you can see right now he is way more in his rhythm and settled and also takes on a leadership role in our group. He is in such good shape.

"He's definitely one of the best strikers in this league."

Leeds United

Leeds boss Daniel Farke was asked if he could provide any update on a potential new contract after managing director Robbie Evans told BBC Sport last week that he and the club are "on the same page":

"No, no news from my side. I spoke at the end of last season long, detailed and open and honest about the situation.

"Our managing director spoke about it last week also quite long about this. I don't want to make a weekly soap opera of it. I think no one wants a manager who is always talking about his future and his contract.

"My whole focus is just on the team, Crystal Palace, and how to be successful.

I have no news and nothing to add or comment."

Leeds United

Leeds boss Daniel Farke praised his side's former over the past eight months but played down early-season talk of a European push :

"It's not a coincidence anymore. It's not just a good period, it's quality what we are delivering and everyone can be proud of this and take lots of confidence.

"But, in this league nothing is guaranteed. The momentum can change very quickly.

"If we think we can be big time, it is the first step to failure. We won't be succesful at all. The table at the moment is not important. What is important is we are on eight points - this is quite good. But not good enough to achieve what we want to achieve.

"The first step is always to win 40 points and to make sure we do it as fast a possible. If we do it and there are still games left we will definitely take it but my only aim and only focus is to make sure we win the 40 points and play another Premier League season."
