Newport County have signed defender Dan Sassi after he was released Blackpool.

The centre-back, 22, moves to League Two having played 42 games while on loan at National League club Altrincham last season.

He previously had loan spells in the fifth tier with Fylde and Rochdale, but was allowed to leave Blackpool having made only one appearance for the Bloomfield Road club.

Newport have not specified the length of Sassi's contract at Rodney Parade.

"I've learned a lot on and off the pitch being in first-team environments, so those are things I'm going to bring here and implement," Sassi told the Newport website.

"I'd say I'm on the front foot, aggressive, give 100%, good in the air and I like to play as well."

Sassi, who was part of the academies at Burnley and Stoke City before joining Blackpool, becomes Newport's sixth signing of the summer.

County have already brought in fellow defender Cameron Norman plus forwards Christian Doidge, Yahya Bamba and Shaquille Gwengwe, while midfielder Harrison Biggins has signed a permanent deal at Newport after impressing while on loan last season.
