Shrewsbury sign Sousa and McMahon-Brown on loan

Shrewsbury Town have signed Aston Villa defender Lino Sousa and Burnley forward Kian McMahon-Brown on season-long loans.

Lisbon-born Sousa began his youth football career with West Bromwich Albion before moves to Premier league sides Arsenal in 2022 and to Villa two years later.

The 21-year-old England youth international has also had loan spells with Plymouth, Bristol Rovers, where he made 29 appearances, and Rotherham.

"Lino is a young man with huge potential," Shrewsbury manager Gavin Cowan told the club website., external

"He can play both sides, at left wing-back and on the right. He gives us a real balance and adds to that competition for places."

McMahon-Brown was named academy player of last season at Turf Moor after scoring 11 goals for the Clarets' Under-21 side.

The 18-year-old, who represented the Republic of Ireland at the Under-17 World Cup last year, signed a two-year deal with the Championship side this summer.

"Kian is a really exciting player," said Cowan.

"He's young, this is his first loan, but he's a player with a lot of potential and a really high ceiling.

"He gives us versatility as well because he can play as a nine, but he can also drop into that 10 position."
