More from Jonny Clayton talking to Sky Sports: "I took chances tonight and that is all it is. I hurt Luke [Littler] at some times when I took out-shots that he missed. I'm taking them all.

"It is the grandpa and the young kid! No, all jokes aside, I've got a lot of respect for Luke. He's absolutely amazing and he's got years ahead of him. Luke is an amazing dart player and he's shown us what we need to do to beat him."

On the table: "It sounds alright. I'd have taken one win so to have fourth and be top of the table at the moment, happy days!"

  4. 'It really hurt me that people thought I'd finish bottom'published at 21:48 BST 16 April

    Result: Littler 4-6 Clayton

Jonny Clayton talking to Sky Sports: "I don't know what happened there. I started off thinking I had to do something special because it is my 20th anniversary tonight and I did forget so maybe this makes it alright.

"I started off slow. Luke didn't play how he started off. Chances, you have to take them and I took them again tonight. That's all that counts."

Any similarities to 2021: "I don't know to be honest. I just come up here and try and win every game of darts. I don't watch many games back but I watched last week's game against Michael [van Gerwen] back and it hurt a little bit when someone said I was favourite to finish bottom, that really hurt and annoyed me to be honest. It is going good for myself so I've got a massive smile on my face."

On what made him watch last week back: "I just don't think I could believe that I was 5-2 down to Michael and came back to win. I thought 'I am going to have a look at this' and I think it gave me a little bit of confidence for tonight. It did hurt when they said I was favourite to finish bottom. That really hurt. I've been here three times before and I've done finals night so hopefully I can prove them wrong.

"Definitely [on whether it has given him some fuel]. They might be looking at some other people. They've got the wrong person."

Perfect start when throwing for the match. A 180 to begin for Jonny Clayton, although he follows it up with just 60.

Clayton is the first to get down to a finish, with 161 to go. Luke Littler's throw means he has 195 left, so Clayton's 30 does not look too costly.

Littler then drills in 133 to keep up the pressure. Clayton goes tops, tops for the nightly win... but his third dart goes over.

But wait, Littler can't hit tops himself to snatch the leg! Clayton pins it.

That was the lesser-spotted 17-dart break of throw.

You don't get many of those in the Premier League.
