The Welshman has been brilliant on his return to the competition and started the night three points clear of Luke Littler in second.
He's made the past three finals, winning two before last week's loss to Littler in Liverpool.
With top four secured, for the next few weeks, it is now a matter of how much Clayton wants to top the pile.
For debutant Gian van Veen, now is the time if he wants to make a run for the top four.
The World Championship runner-up is four points behind fellow Dutchman Michael van Gerwen in fourth and will feel he has to collect points every week from here.
Having made four finals, tonight would be a fine time to claim a first nightly win.
Result: Bunting 5-6 Price
Well, that got very exciting all of a sudden!
Stephen Bunting had the better average - 97.02 to Gerwyn Price's 95.98 - and also edged the 180 count, 5-4.
It was the doubles that cost him, most notably those two at tops for the match, and he ended up hitting just five of 20 (25%), while Price was six from 15 for 40%.

Gerwyn Price is on the march. He's kept his hopes well and truly alive.

Bunting 5-4 Price
Brilliant leg from Gerwyn Price with seven perfect darts to start it.
He misses the treble 19, though, and then makes a bit of a meal of it on tops.
The Welshman gets it eventually, though, and Bunting will throw for the match.
Bunting 5-3 Price
Gerwyn Price leaves the big fish... and scores 27. Not his best visit.

Image source, PA MediaIt is all a bit lobby from Gerwyn Price.
He has a zip at the end of his throw normally and then aggression but we're not seeing that tonight.
It is all very soft.
Bunting 4-2 Price
Stephen Bunting consolidates the break.
He's looked a bit twitchy on the doubles at times and, again, it's not the most clinical of finishes.
But he hits double eight in the end to move to within two legs of victory.

Image source, PA MediaThere isn't much zip in the Gerwyn Price throw at the moment.
He's just following through at on speed - he's got to improve that.
His snap and action has completely gone. He needs to take a beat.
