So there ends England's 2026 Test summer. It began with Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum. It ends with Joe Root and Stephen Fleming with a whole lot more in between.

England captain Joe Root speaking at the presentation: "We've had things go our way in the series and we had a little bit of pushback yesterday which in a strange way was a good thing for the group, but for us to come through it and be so convincing in the way is really pleasing.

"At the start of the game if you'd have looked at that pitch and were chasing 130 to win you'd have taken it. For us to get clinical at the back end with partnership is exactly the sort of thing we are after off the back of two other brilliant performances. Off the back of this series there's a lot of information to work with going into the winter."

On Pakistan's tail wagging: "We didn't know much about Razaullah so didn't have a lot to work with. He hit some wonderful shots which were quite difficult to set fields to and struck the ball nicely. I don't know how he's not pulled his side swinging at it that hard! He played nicely and made it difficult for us. In modern cricket guys can bat further. We'll do our work and better prepared for South Africa."

England interim coach Marcus Trescothick: "I have loved every minute. The opportunity to look after the team. You're into everything. You're chatting to players. You're picking out plans. There's so much to do but you're just invested because of the opportunity to do it and to come away with 3-0 is brilliant for the team, so it's brilliant.

"When I first came in we had a transition from Ben and Baz, we just wanted to calm everything down, keep it really simple, not try and get too dramatic with our plans, get back into a bit of simplicity with our cricket and value the opportunity for the big scores which haven't come. We haven't been able to nail that over the course of the series but we have a lot of consistency and good players and gradually game by game we've got better and done a better job and I feel the team is definitely moving i the right direction."

On if he knows what his future role will be: "No, we're still waiting. We've had various conversations with Rob Key and people behind the scenes. I believe Stephen's coming over in the next few days and then we're going straight into the white ball stuff tomorrow. We'll practice tomorrow afternoon and then Monday morning before we get going on Tuesday. We'll continue with the next series, the Sri Lanka series, and then we'll see what's happening after that."

This is the first series of three or more Tests involving England without a century since 1888.

England player of the series Ollie Robinson, speaking at the presentation: "It's been a very special summer and it's always nice to cap it off with a 3-0 win. It's been well documented that I thought I would never play for England again so to get the opportunity and grab it with both hands it has been an amazing summer and I'm determined to keep it going.

"I have go that inner drive and ambition to keep going and push on, with the help of the backroom staff at England the last six months there's been a real push. I know the hard work is not done yet and there's a lot to do but we're just getting started."

On why seamers have thrived this summer: "It's been a strange one. We expected flatter wickets I think and they have definitely nipped a lot with the new ball. I think the balls are harder as well, and they seem to nip for longer which has played into my hands as well. It's definitely done more than previous summers, and when we get to South Africa again in the winter we'll have to adapt again and see what the conditions present there."

On England's bowling unit and wicketkeepers: "It's great to be a part of that four with three guys who can bowl 90mph. They have all got different skills and ability. I think we have something special as a bowling group. Jamie Smith set the trend by coming up to the stumps and he's helped me get a lot of wickets this summer and made it look very easy. Jordan Cox to get five dismissals standing in for Smith is really impressive. It shows as a group where we are at - everyone can step in and step up."

England are not in action again in Test cricket until 17 December when their three-Test series against world champions South Africa begins.

They also tour Bangladesh for two Tests and play a one-off Test in Australia this winter.

The white-ball team is in action again on Tuesday. There are still three T20s and three ODIs against Sri Lanka to come this month.

England captain Joe Root speaking to TMS about the state of his team: "Let's be honest, we're not the finished article. We're not going to kid ourselves.

"That'll be a constant work. I think the culture of this team is not something that's going to happen overnight, it's something we're going to have to live and breathe day in, day out. But there's no reason we can't. It's a good set of lads, really good guys that work incredibly hard and performances like this and commitment to what we're trying to achieve, both on and off the field, will be what earns trust and respect to everyone that supports us."

On if he's glad he's taken the captaincy: "I'm excited for it. It's different this time around. I'm looking forward to Stephen [Fleming] coming over and getting to work with him more closely, we've spoken quite a lot over the phone but over the while it'll be a good opportunity for us to get to know each other a bit better and prepare for the winter now."

Pakistan player of the series, Muhammad Abbas, speaking at the post-match presentation: "We thought this morning that anything is possible in cricket so that's the way we started. My specialty of taking wickets with the new ball so I had a chat with the boys and we tried our best.

"Everyone is trying hard and sometimes when you try hard as a fast bowler you bowl no-balls. We did hard work, especially in this game.

On making his Test-best score: "Obviously it was a good moment for us. Everyone chipped in and I tired. Razaullah played against me in first-class cricket last year and scored some runs. He is very good for the future of Pakistan."

On getting his name on the Lord's honours board: "It was special for me because when I came here at Lord's in 2018 I took eight wickets - but four and four - so in this series I took again four wickets but gave everything for a five-for. I am 36 now and it all depends on the fitness how long I go on - I am trying my hardest with my trainer so I can play more."

On the distractions and change in Pakistan cricket: "Everyone has tried their best but we came from hot weather in the West Indies to here and the weather was not so hot. We needed to spend more time in a place when we go away. It was not a good result, but everyone is trying hard."

More from England captain Joe Root: "Test cricket is not meant to be easy and you're not meant to have it all your own way all the time. The last two days felt like normal Test cricket again. You have to work hard for your wickets. If you get in you should be able to score runs and feel like you can make a valuable contribution and not feel like you're waiting for that good ball all the time. Throughout the series the batters have stood up.

"I know we've not had a guy go and make a really big hundred. That's been across the board all summer. That's not been the situation or pitches that has been able to happen. The fact that everyone has made a score and contributed shows we have the quality we have the quality to perform at Test cricket is a good thing too.

"Of course there's things we want to improve on and look at but we've come into this series with a lot of question marks around the team and we've walked away 3-0 quite convincingly, so in that respect I'm happy."

On Jordan Cox's performance: "He showed great maturity and has done throughout the whole series. And to say he had not had much experience batting at number three, in some of the conditions we found ourselves in as well, the manner he has played has been outstanding. Today he showed great composure, great maturity. At 2-2, the only way back in for them was a start like that and the way we both handled it, but he in particular was brilliant."

England captain Joe Root, speaking to Test Match Special": "If you looked at the toss on day one and if you said we'd be chasing 130 in the final innings we'd have definitely taken that. That being said fair play to Pakistan, they threw some punches last night. They made it very difficult for us and in some ways it's a good thing to go through that, Test cricket is not always going to go your own way. You're going to have good surfaces to try and find different ways of taking wickets but to see us actually be quite clinical with the bat off the back of that was good too. So in many ways we're better for it."

On yesterday's chaotic final session: "Sometimes that's what happens in those late stages. They become more frequent in modern cricket, guys can bat all the way down. No disrespect but it's not like it was 50 years ago when you had bowlers and batters, there's more all-rounders now.

"We didn't have a lot of information on the young fella, fair play he played some wonderful shots, rode his luck a little bit with a lot of plays and misses and maybe we could've gone to slightly different plans but we'll learn from it.

"If we find ourselves in another situation further down the line we might we might have something else to go to. Maybe go with wider stuff and have specific plans. As I said, we didn't have a lot of information to work with and I do think we'll be better off having that information in the bank."

Pakistan captain Babar Azam: "We had a couple of good moments. I think we have bowled well but I think the first innings cost us. Too much soft dismissals and then we came back and in the second innings and we batted long. A few good performances, I think it was a good opportunity for youngsters to play against quality bowlers, quality opponent, so they learned a lot and I think this is helpful for the future."

On Razaullah's performance: "He's a raw talent. I think it's good for us because they have played a lot of cricket back home and they play first-class and improve a lot. Day by day as a player when you play a lot of cricket you learn a lot of things. I think this match gave him a lot of confident - both sides batting and bowling - so good for him and we wish him good luck.

"Before we focused on red ball and then focused on white ball, the PCB and the stakeholders are trying to do a lot of red ball cricket over there [in Pakistan] because we are going back home and then we are playing first-class cricket after one or two days, so it's good for us for the rest of cricket because when we are playing a lot of red ball cricket you learn a lot of good things. A few boys are staying here playing county cricket, so it's good for us."

Joe Root says it's a "good thing" they were pushed by Pakistan last night.

"In many ways we are better for it," he says.

England have managed that well. They were 35-3 for about seven seconds before the no-ball came up and how crucial that could've been. That was the turning point and you just felt a little bit of the stuffing had been knocked out of Pakistan after that scrape from Muhammad Abbas to get two wickets.

That does send a few shivers down the spine and they've always said those low totals sometimes can be a bit tricky but a really good partnership.

I'm delighted for Jordan Cox. he's showed he's got what it takes at Test level with the bat and gloves. Joe Root is Joe Root - simple as that - and they will be delighted.
