England have improved drastically as a powerplay wicket taking unit this year, taking 13 wickets at an average below 20.

  3. Eng 37-2published at 4 overs

A huge wicket. That's a shot you want her playing in the powerplay. As a spinner you want them sweeping, playing square, because their strengths are down the ground.

    Mandhana lbw b Dean 8 (Ind 36-2)

    As we thought.

Smriti Mandhana was already walking off after the first replay. The technology has it hitting the middle of middle and that's a big wicket for England with India going well.

It feels out, looks out. Charlie Dean looks pretty confident. I can see leg stump, so I think clipping leg stump.

    Surely this is out?!

Smriti Mandhana misses a sweep to Charlie Dean when bang in front.

It was given out on the field...

I think from England's point of view, they'll take confidence from the last game at Bristol where India got off to flyer but England's spinners then really put the squeeze on.

  9. Ind 35-1published at 3.1 overs

Charlie Dean brings herself on in an attempt to bring some order but her first ball is bashed for four on the sweep by Yastika Bhatia.

Yastika Bhatia has a point to prove after getting bogged down in Bristol.

It's quite unusual to see this much width from Lauren Bell. Two left-handers out in the middle, I wonder if that's causing issues.

  12. Ind 31-1published at 3 overs

    Mandhana 8, Bhatia 9

Lauren Bell hasn't quite had her line right to the left-handers. The pitch is slow but, with the ball wide of off stump, Yastika Bhatia cuts successive deliveries for four. Two wides down the leg side follows by Bell too.

India are going along well even with the loss of that wicket and Bell is looking a little red in the cheek.

Yastika Bhatia, who India retired out in Bristol, is India's number three.

I like the change of angle and that Linsey Smith's learnt from the last game. Cramping Shafali Verma for room, a thick outside edge and Charlie Dean takes the catch. Smith showing her class and why she's ranked so highly in the world.

  15. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 2 overs

    Verma c Dean b Smith 11 (Ind 19-1)

Linsey Smith hits back! Is this why she is number two in the rankings? With Verma looking to attack she keeps her nerve, pushing one wider from over the wicket. The right-handed India opener throws her hands at it but only manages to skew the ball in the air to Charlie Dean who takes a good catch running back from point.

Linsey Smith, the world's number two bowler, is under pressure early.

Fours apiece from Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma.

Really elegant from Shafali Verma, opening the face of the bat and using the pace of Lauren Bell.

  19. Ind 10-0published at 1 over

After three balls of punch and counterpunch, Shafali Verma plays a lovely late guide to steer away the first boundary of the day through the gully. That's such a good shot from the young opener. She's not all about the powerful hitting.

That and a wide that follows mean it's a decent start from India.

Why oh why wouldn't you bat first in these conditions? The chase will be so much harder under lights.
