    I think Muhammad Abbas is going to need a mate at the other end to try and build a little bit of pressure for him.

    At the moment, he is looking dangerous. Emilio Gay was his 900th first-class wicket.

    You need to work as a unit. At the moment, it looks like 'Come on Abbas, get us a wicket.'

    Sadly, I'm beginning to think Gay isn't going to make it. He just doesn't seem to be quite good enough for Test cricket, and with Cox, Bethell and Smith seemingly fighting over two spots, a couple of fifties just won't cut it.

    Does Emilio Gay open for the remainder of the summer? Or if Jordan Cox does well today, is he asked to open with Ben Duckett? Perhaps harsh on Gay I know, but there are not all that many Tests before the pivotal Ashes series …

    In his short career so far, Emilio Gay has been dismissed on three occasions when the bowlers have attacked his body. While he loves it when offered width, Gay averages 6.7 with deliveries down leg and 12 in the channel outside off.

    The seam bowling has been a long-standing problem for Pakistan.

    Tests from 2022, all their seamers averaged just over 36.

    That is the worst seam bowling average out of the nine regular Test playing teams.

    Shahzad took three wickets in his one innings at Headingley but was expensive, conceding 133 runs from his 21.5 overs.

    Ben Duckett takes a first-ball single into the covers, meaning Emilio Gay faces Muhammad Abbas for the first time.

    The right-arm seamer switches back to bowling over the wicket halfway through the over and beats the bat of Gay, before drawing a tickle down the leg side from the final ball of the over.

    It's a good take by Muhammad Rizwan, diving a good distance to complete the catch.
