How unlucky must you feel there for Jemimah Rodrigues. Full, wide, outside the off stump, doesn't get up, thick inside edge.

That is a little bit of a gift for England and Issy Wong. Rodrigues will feel hard done by.

From nowhere! That is a gift for England.

    Rodrigues b Wong 35 (Ind 101-3)

Breakthrough. It's a tad fortunate for England but they all count.

Jemimah Rodrigues' eyes light up at a wide ball outside off stump. She reaches for it but there's a thick inside edge and she chops on.

It's not been ideal for Issy Wong, a little bit wayward so far.

She's probably undercooked. Wong and Filer haven't played a game in a while.

Signs of uneven bounce as a short-ish one from Issy Wong travels through at around shin-height.

It doesn't stop Jemimah Rodrigues from clipping it square to bring up India's 100.

I would love the BCCI to organise something in October, which would mark 50 years since India played their first Test match.

Smriti Mandhana plays off her hips and it's on the up but well safe. In other news, a maiden. Small wins!

Four dot balls from Sophie Ecclestone. Is the first maiden on?

England seamers haven't quite hit the mark with enough consistency this morning. As a unit, they have landed 18% of deliveries on a good line and length. This is the lowest by any seam unit on the first morning of a Test match since such data began.

For context, the highest percentage of a seam bowling attack hitting both line and length at the start of a match was England at Taunton in 2022 against South Africa, where 48% of all deliveries were testing the batters' technique. The attack that day consisted of Lauren Bell, Kate Cross, Nat Sciver-Brunt and Issy Wong.

A fantastic delivery by Issy Wong. This is what she can do. It's angled in and then shapes past Jemimah Rodrigues' outside edge.

That will give Wong a confidence-boost but it might be short-lived.

Short and wide-ish and Rodrigues slaps Wong for four.

Mandhana's 50 came off exactly 50 deliveries made up of eight fours and one six. It's her quickest 50 in Test cricket.

The first 50 in a women's Test match at this ground has been reached.

Wonderful knock from a stylish player in Mandhana.

    Ind 93-2

These runs are coming far too easily. Smriti Mandhana advances down the track and drives it through mid-on.

And Mandhana brings up her half-century with two more. A terrific innings. She's scored at a run-a-ball and kept her cool after those two wickets.

The 50 partnership is up. Smriti Mandhana is on 44 off 45 and Jemimah Rodrigues is on 27 off 26.

India are scoring faster than NSB did in the T20 final.

    John, Abertawe

A terrible decision to bowl first on a good day for batting. Issy Wong is not good enough to play Test match cricket and bowls far too many half volleys.

    Glen, York

Surely Amy Jones has to stand up to the stumps when Issy Wong is bowling? I haven’t seen one carry yet!

Issy Wong will be disappointed with her display this morning. Just hasn't got going.

Jemimah Rodrigues guides it through backward point for two and plays a back-foot punch for a single.

Meanwhile, my colleague Callum has just said he has never been in a sauna before. He's 31. I find that weird.

It was so loud in the pavilion when the players came out.

It was very special when the old and new players were all singing the national anthem. There was a lot of tears.
