BBC Somerset will be broadcasting a special discussion on Monday 15th December between 0900 and 1000, asking the question: "Who should be responsible for protecting homes and businesses from floods?" Can the local authorities cope? Do they do a good enough job? Or should individuals take more responsibility for protecting their own property? We'll have spokespeople from local authorities to answer your questions on flood warnings, sandbags, emergency helplines, whatever you want to talk about. What a night. Severe flooding, a real community spirit to deal with the events of the night and early morning. There were teams of residents helping to direct traffic, clear flood damage and provide assistance were it was needed. Donyatt demonstrated how a community can work together, when the emergency services are just too stretched to cope. The fire service were excellent, but not a single police patrol responded to requests for assistance with the traffic. A number of houses were overwhelmed by flooding from the wall of water that swept down off the fields.

Countess Gytha Primary School in Queen Camel was flooded out today with water swamping all the buildings for the second time in eight years. The Christmas holidays will be starting early for the children but staff and parents face the grim task of clearing up after the waters recede. This flood has reawakened the calls for a new school complex to be built in the village . Elsewhere in Queen Camel households were evacuated out of Grace Martin's lane and the Mill complex as waters rose to over four feet. This evening the road through Queen Camel remains impassable but the flood water was receding.

The George Inn
We were awoken by a phone call to say that our pub was under water. all the bar and restaurants were under water and a lot of mud. All morning at least 20 villagers helped and we managed to open the pub as usual at midday.Many many thanks to all who helped amid the carnage of the flood

im on the somerset levels near the river carey and absolutely fine, puddles on the roads and heavy rain overnight but otherwise nothing of the sort of thing being talked about on the news, its obviously in isolated patches peter

I came down stairs this morning at 7.30 and stepped into 6 inches of water! Fire service are only dealing with real emergancies, but our friends and neighbours came to our rescue and we bailed out tons of water within 4 hours. Thank goodness for such good friends and neighbours. Thanks Helen, AM, Bill and Elaine
