Mia Koden

The Annie Nightingale Pioneers initiative celebrates the pioneering spirit of Annie Nightingale, Radio 1’s first female DJ and longest-serving presenter. It honours her enduring legacy of championing new music, emerging talent and underrepresented voices in electronic music.

Our first recipient is Mia Koden, a south London-based South Sudanese British DJ and producer whose forward-thinking approach to underground electronic music and soundsystem culture has established her as an exciting voice in the scene. With releases on influential label Ilian Tape, she has built a reputation for bass-heavy, genre-spanning productions. In 2024, she was named Resident Advisor’s Breakthrough Artist of the Year and nominated for Breakthrough Producer at DJ Mag’s Best of British Awards.

Mia delivers an hour-long journey through her USBs - covering everything from dubstep, 2-step, broken beat, breaks, dub house to techno and beyond.
