Dvořák's 8th Symphony from Berlin
Elizabeth Alker introduces an afternoon of great music including performances from the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra and chamber music from across Bavaria.
Elizabeth Alker presents an afternoon of exceptional music-making featuring recent performances from the top German orchestras, today including the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra; plus chamber music from Bavaria.
The programme opens with rarely heard Gershwin in a vibrant new arrangement by Miho Hazama and Dvořák’s richly coloured 8th Symphony and the evocative tone poem En Saga by Sibelius, both conducted by the Finnish born conductor Sakari Oramo.
From the Imperial Hall Concerts in the Bavarian town of Füssen, Poulenc’s playful incidental music for Jean Anouilh's play L’Invitation au château, and the Amatis Piano Trio performs Mendelssohn’s lyrical Second Piano Trio. From the Goldmund Festival, tenor Julian Prégardien joins the Goldmund Quartet for an arrangement of Schumann’s expressive early Liederkreis.
Elsewhere, Richard Goode offers an intimate perspective on Beethoven’s late E major Piano Sonata.
