The Orsino Ensemble live from Wigmore Hall

The Orsino Ensemble play wind music by Barber, Nielsen and a UK premiere of Mark Simpson's The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows. Plus, Gabriela Montero's 'Latin Concerto'.

Linton Stephens presents an afternoon of great performances from the UK and beyond. A focus on conductors this week begins with the acclaimed Hong Kong born conductor Elim Chan. She is music-director designate of the San Francisco Symphony but today you can catch her directing the BBC Symphony Orchestra in Gabriela Montero's 'Latin Concerto', the composer herself at the piano, given today as part of Radio 3's 'Piano Mondays'.
And staying with the piano, Linton takes us to New Ross, a port town on the River Barrow in County Wexford, Ireland, for the New Ross Piano Festival where the internationally acclaimed pianist Markus Groh performs music by Beethoven.

But we begin with a recital of music for winds from the Orsino Ensemble, Live from Wigmore Hall, featuring some of today's major league wind-players.
