Stacey travels to Nevada, the only US state where brothels are legal, to find out if places like the Mustang Ranch should exist as a solution to the dangers sex workers face.

The brothel is run by two former sex workers Tara and Jennifer, who believe their previous experience of sex work helps them provide a more empathetic environment for working women. But the brothel is still a business, and if courtesans don’t bring in their fair share of bookings, they risk losing their place.

Stacey’s room for the weekend is usually used to entertain clients. Her neighbouring courtesans stay for a minimum of one week at a time, and they work, eat meals and socialise together.

During her stay, Stacey gets to know 68-year-old Erica, one of the ranch’s most successful courtesans, and discovers how being the eldest resident can work in Erica’s favour. Conversely, newcomer Asia is the youngest and most inexperienced courtesan. Turning 21 during Stacey’s stay, she appears to struggle to adjust to the new lifestyle. Twenty-six-year-old Scarlett juggles working at the brothel with being a wife and mother to her young son, which Stacey discovers takes its toll emotionally.
