Barry Parker

Barry Parker is BBC Radio York's resident walking encyclopedia of musical knowledge and York City FC trivia. There's no need to trawl the internet, everything is in Barry's head! Find out what else is in there with our questionnaire...

Barry Parker

Listen to Barry on Cloud 9 Tuesdays' between 7pm and 10pm.

Listen to BBC Radio York: 103.7 FM, 95.5 FM and 104.3 FM plus 666 & 1260 MW and online.

Star sign: Taurus.

Born 'n' Bred: Mainly Leeds, via Bridlington.

First Memory: Twirling round to records played on our radiogram - Elvis and The Coasters I'm told!

First record bought: Dance to the Music by Sly & The Family Stone in July 1968.

First job: A summer job in the printing presses of Tapp & Tootills in West Leeds (now demolished) in the long hot summer of 1976.

Little known fact about yourself: I have walked the entire English river and canal system, including the derelict ones.

Favourite food and drink: A traditional roast, home made coffee cake from a North Yorkshire tearoom and tea.

Favourite place in the world: Various Cornish coves.

Favourite place in North Yorkshire: Whitby

Any pet hates: Obsessive political correctness.

What would your desert island luxury be: An endless supply of chocolates!

Most embarrassing radio moment: How long have you got? I once mispronounced 'Leicester City' (work it out...).

Best radio moment: About two minutes after York City's third goal at Manchester Utd in 1995, as the scale of the sensation kicks in (it's obvious in the commentary): The ultimate magic shiver down the spine moment.

Who would be your dream co-presenter: Probably Bob Stanley (pop journalist/St Etienne musical genius) - don't know if he does radio but I'm sure he could.

If you weren't a broadcaster what would you be: Something outdoors - possibly in the National Park or countryside official or guide.
