Cloud 9 is an unashamed attempt to put quality and artistic merit at the top of the musical agenda.

The programme compliments BBC Radio York's Dr Rock Show (essentially 50's based) by regarding the Beatles and their contemporaries (1963 plus) as pivotal.

It's accessible to everyone - If you're unfamiliar with pop and rock, it provides an overview of the music scene, taken fairly seriously, over the last 50 years. If you're mega-enthusiastic and read Q or Mojo cover to cover, it unearths long lost obscurities and gems that perhaps you'd always wanted to hear.

All this is achieved by various tenuous features and themes, including time travel. Cloud 9's specialty is to feature batches of tunes from precisely the same point in time, to give a flavour of what the music scene was like in that particular week or month.

So, if you lived it, you can re-live it. If you didn't, you can enjoy whatever you missed as if you'd been transported back in time...
