Why won't Axel, the new PM's dog, be moving to Downing Street?

We've got a new prime minister, but what about a new Downing Street pet?

Well, Andy Burnham has now revealed that he won't be bringing his dog Axel to No 10 because he's worried he might have a ruff relationship with Larry the cat!

When asked about Axel by presenter Laura Kuenssberg for the BBC, the PM replied: "He wouldn't get on with Larry, let me put it that way.

"And I don't think the nation would thank me, would they, if I brought Axel down to disturb Larry's world."

Larry was hired in 2011 by then prime minister David Cameron, who turned out to be his longest-serving owner.

But for Axel, rather than moving with his owner, he'll be staying in Greater Manchester.

Mr Burnham suggested that the the poodle-mix's temperament might cause problems saying: "I think he's going to have to stay up north, because he's kind of got that angry little man thing going on."

But, with Mr Burnham planning to travel back and forth between the two cities, as well as serving his constituency of Makerfield, we're sure neither Larry or Axel will be lonely.
