Dogs dress up in NYC at annual Halloween parade

- Published
Four-legged lobsters, hairy hot dogs and even doggy dandelions were spotted strutting their stuff in New York City on Saturday as the annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade took place in Manhattan.
In its 36th year, the parade brings together animal rescue charities and local residents to raise funds, awareness, and to entertain the thousands of people who turn up to enjoy the hilarious event.
The winner of the costume competition this year was Snickers the Shih Tzu, who wore his New York Knicks jersey with pride while sitting inside a giant basketball.
He was awarded a giant rosette and $1,000 (about £750) worth of dog treats and toys.
Here are some more costumes that caught our eye and made us chuckle.

Payton the Cavapoo roped in his whole family with the hilarious hot dog themed costume. Relish this moment guys...

Beauty queens on parade! These two French bulldogs wore their finest ballgowns, sitting on the softest cushions and they accessorised with sparkly crowns just to prove they were pet royalty.

Looking fine and dandy-lion... One of the most original costumes we have seen was on Sammy the German shepherd. Hope there wasn't a strong gust of wind!

Little Parker the Cavapoo looked a little cross to have been caught in a net by his wader-wearing owner... Perhaps she had suggested changing his name to Clawd...?

This sassy little pup named Tiger Blaze managed to make rubbish (or 'trash', as the Americans call it) look super chic, complete with New York City pigeon perched on top... So coo-te!

Georgie the miniature schnauzer seemed exhausted from the excitement of the day, but his family look like a lovely bunch....
