Aggressive nature of push notification has stunned cyber security worldpublished at 17:57 BST

The aggressive nature of using a push notification to potentially millions of ASOS customers is the part of the hack that has stunned the cyber security world - and confused many customers.
I would be surprised if this was the first time that hackers have tried to contact ASOS about the data breach.
Normally these extortions happen in secret with the hackers hoping to get paid in exchange for their discretion.
The alleged hackers have clearly decided to carry out this highly public move to pressure the firm into negotiation - perhaps because they have so far been ignored or resisted.
There are very few cases in cyber crime history like this.
In May a group called ShinyHunters carried out a hack that led to hundreds of US university students seeing a message from hackers during exams.
In that instance the hacked company, Canvas, did end up paying a ransom to have the data deleted.
But the advice from law enforcement agencies around the world is not to pay as it encourages hackers and fuels the cyber crime ecosystem.
