Sky Blues fan Hayley Finlay put off running the London marathon due to Coventry City's final game.

"I wanted to go to Coventry-Wrexham and watch us lift the Championship Trophy and be part of that day and also not make people choose between going to the football and coming to watch me in the London Marathon," she told BBC Radio 5 Live.

Some who have followed the team for many decades, never thought they'd see their beloved club return to the Premier League.

Hayley's father-in-law, Stu, is one of them.

"I never thought that I'd see the day that we're back in the Premiership," he said. "It's just amazing for me."

"This is better than 1964-67 and 2020, this is special, you'll not see anything like this again, probably for another 25 years."

Stu, who has been a supporter since 1962, had lots of praise for the Sky Blues boss.

He said: "Frank's been brilliant... we've not stopped rising, people seem to think it's going to be a one season wonder, I don't think it will be. I think we'll keeping going, we'll carry on rising.

"I suppose it's Champions League next really."

"This was my day today... this is why I did it. It was massive," the Coventry City owner says.

King secured full ownership of the Sky Blues after buying out previous owners in January 2023

"It's been bigger than I thought it would be," he adds.

"That's why I bought it. I'm very proud."

  9. Memories of the '87 FA Cup paradepublished at 18:09 BST

To many of an older generation in Coventry, this parade has brought back memories from nearly 40 years ago - of the parade when, in 1987, the Sky Blues memorably won the FA Cup.

Seems like only yesterday eh folks?

He's inspired many kids' haircuts of late, according to a local barber, with some even asking for a Jack Rudoni trim at the Holyhead earlier today.

"I'm quite a fan of my haircut myself," Rudoni says. "Shout-out to MBlnz,"

With his arm in a sling and face paint across his cheek, the midfielder told me I've apparently got the "best glasses" he has seen today, so I'll definitely take that.

Speaking of the atmosphere, he said it was "absolutely amazing" and for many in the team: "It'll be the best day of their lives so far."

He added: "Hopefully many more celebrations to come in the future.

"It means everything. And the fans, you lot mean everything to us, you make the city go round."

  11. Jamie Allen: 'It's been amazing'published at 17:47 BST

Sky Blues midfielder Jamie Allen is lost for words.

"To see that many people out there is just breathtaking," he says.

"Then to come into a park like this and see so many people, when I've seen so many people out on the roads... it's been amazing."

I don't think this team has stopped smiling and laughing since the parade began - and why would you?

Singer and Coventry City fan Tom Grennan said he "fell in love" with the club when he first went to watch them 10 years ago.

Speaking ahead of his performance at today's event, he said: "I've been a Cov fan since 2016, so I've seen them in League Two. So, to see where they are today is absolutely amazing and to see what it means for the city is unbelievable.

"I know I've only been a Cov fan for 10 years, but when I first came to a Cov game, at the Ricoh, I fell in love with the spirit, I fell in love with what the football club meant.

"I thought this is what it really feels like to support a club."

Wave those arms in the air like you just don't care - because this is it, Coventry City fans, you and your players having a magical, celebratory day.

  17. Josh Eccles: 'It's what you dream of'published at 17:03 BST

    Lorna Bailey
    BBC Coventry and Warwickshire

Sky Blues midfielder Josh Eccles struggled to explain today's events to me, when he came off the bus.

"I'm a bit speechless right now, it's what you dream of," he told me.

"Seeing all the fans come out for a day like today...emotional, ecstatic, sensational."

Speaking before he went on stage in front of more than 50,000 fans in his hometown, he added: "My missus lives around here, so I know where it was, I knew the park was close.

"It's just one of those things, you can't wait to get out there."

    Josh Eccles
  18. Players on stagepublished at 16:55 BST

The players have just LOVED it, you can tell - they have been on the stage at the War Memorial Park with their manager joining them on stage, Frank Lampard waving to the fans as he did.

This moment was then followed by a short bit of dancing by the boss which... he's probably not going to get on to Strictly with.

    What. A. Day.

  19. Former captain Liam Kelly: 'I'm just so proud'published at 16:53 BST

    Lorna Bailey
    BBC Coventry and Warwickshire

Liam Kelly wearing a beige jacket and a light blue Coventry City scarf is interviewed by a BBC CWR reporter with a purple microphone.

Former captain Liam Kelly, who plated for Coventry between 2017 and 2024, said: "I didn't really have a football team [growing up] but now I'm a Coventry City fan.

"I'm just so proud of the players, I've played with so many on that team, which was brilliant. To see them, the club and this city - it deserves it and it was long overdue but sometimes the longer you have to wait the more worthwhile it is.

"I'm over the moon and I'm proud of this football club because it really does deserve it."

  20. 'We are back now'published at 16:44 BST

    Lorna Bailey
    BBC Coventry and Warwickshire

I've been speaking to Coventry City legend Dave Bennett, who reminisced about the club's FA Cup triumph in 1987.

He said today's celebrations brings back a lot of memories.

"In '87, we didn't have a park like this," he said. "But the feeling is still the same, it unites so many people here now."

Seeing the fans in sky blue hats and shirts is a "magnificent sight", Bennett said.

Holding an inflatable trophy up in the air, he added: "I wish it was the real one but no it doesn't really matter does it."

"We're back now and that's that, that's all that counts."
