Burnham to Labour: 'This is a final chance to change'published at 03:26 BST
Acknowledging he has likely received support from those who would traditionally vote for other parties, Burnham says he will always take a "place-first, rather than a party-first approach".
"I will be your MP, however you voted," he tells the vote count in Wigan.
He says the result "made a loud cry for change" and addresses his own party: "This is a final chance to change."
"There will be no second chance," he says, adding there is an opportunity now to build a "new politics based on unity and hope".
