Law & Order star Mariska Hargitay is singing, cracking jokes and bringing out tons of big-name celebrities - including Taylor Swift - during the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards - she's the first woman to host the show in 15 years
Welsh actor Matthew Rhys makes history with wins in two lead actor categories for his work in Widow's Bay and The Beast in Me - here is the full list of all the winners
Actress Jean Smart won her eighth Emmy - and fifth consecutive for the comedy series Hacks - which tied her for the most acting awards, while British actress Kate O'Flynn got the first win of the night for Widow's Bay, telling BBC her a message for those back home - "to our family and friends, we did it!"
Leading the pack in nominations tonight is medical drama The Pitt, which is up for 25 awards - read more about the show here.
Stars including Zendaya and Nicole Kidman to Colman Domingo and Matthew Rhys turned heads earlier tonight on the red carpet at the Peacock Theater in Downtown Los Angeles. See all the looks here

Image source, Getty ImagesDuring the show, actress Sally Field honoured the late Dolly Parton, calling her "genuine and humble, supportive, and blisteringly funny".
The country singer died last month at the age of 80.
Field, who starred in Steel Magnolias with Parton in 1989, called the late country star "a humanitarian whose contributions have made a profound difference in the lives of so many in her home state of Tennessee and across our country."
"God bless you, Dolly Parton, my friend. I am not the only one on earth that will love you forever," she added.
Reba McEntire performed a tribute, singing Parton's iconic song Smoky Mountain Memories.
Parton began her career on TV. Her breakthrough came in 1967 when she joined The Porter Wagoner Show which aired nationally.

Speaking about the political climate of the last decade, Gilligan says in his acceptance speech: "We will never agree on everything, but we can show respect to one another, maybe even kindness, and we can stop listening to a relative few who...get their power from dividing us."

Image source, Getty ImagesThe audience cheered loudly for actor Michael J Fox while he accepted the Bob Hope humanitarian award.
"When it starts getting tough, you show up, you help, and if you get a little joy while you're doing it, that's even better," Fox said.
He reflected on his life, including wanting at first to keep his Parkinson's diagnosis a secret. Fox received that diagnosis in 1991, when he was 29, but did not share it with the world until 1998.
"I worried that it would affect my work and my relationships with audiences when they laughed if they knew I was sick," he said.
Fox then highlighted the efforts of the Michael J. Fox Foundation and its work to "eradicate" Parkinson's "forever."
The audience gave him a standing ovation as he left the stage.
Before the Michael J. Fox presentation, Hiro Murai won the award for best directing for a comedy series for Widow's Bay.
The nominations included:
"My job isn't to make the show; it's just to let the right people in the room," Murai said in his acceptance speech. "And we just had the most beautiful, kindest, most gifted people in our room on the show."

Actor Michael J Fox is getting the Bob Hope humanitarian award tonight. He was also nominated for a guest role in the Apple TV comedy Shrinking where he plays a Parkinson's patient, the condition he battles in real life.
That award was handed out at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony earlier this month and was posthumously presented to late actor and director Rob Reiner for his guest role in The Bear.
Fox, 65, is already a five-time Emmy Award winner, earning the prize for his work on the sitcoms Family Ties, Spin City and Rescue Me.
He's getting tonight's special award for his humanitarian efforts that "have brought credit to the industry and whose deeds and actions have had a lasting impact on society".
Right now, the awards attendees are watching a video explaining his work on Parkinson's research.

The nominees included:
"Thank you so much for watching," Stephen Colbert said to viewers of his show, which ended earlier this year, during his acceptance speech. "We hope you enjoyed the show. We had a great time doing it for you," he said standing alongside writers from his show.

Saul Metzstein wins the award best director of a drama series for Apple TV's Slow Horses.
The nominations included:
"Everyone gets up here and says that they had the best crew ever," Metzstein says in his acceptance speech. "Simply not true because we had the best crew ever."

Sally Field wins for outstanding lead actress in a limited or anthology series or movie for Remarkably Bright Creatures.
The nominations included:
"I have been so grateful and so proud to be a part of this community, the arts, for 62 years," she says in her acceptance speech. "We're the arts. We matter. Our voices matter. Our diversity, our unique storytelling matters. We can't let those voices be silenced or compromised or merged."
She also pays special tribute to Canada.

Image source, Getty ImagesAs part of a prerecorded skit, host Mariska Hargitay and her costars from Law & Order SVU tried to solve the mystery of whether Taylor Swift would appear at the Emmys.
Swift then appeared, joining in as a character trying to solve the case, which took us on a tour of the nominees and Swift's album and personal life.
One of Swift's cats is named Olivia Benson after Hargitay's character on the Law & Order series.

Before she addressed media backstage, Emmy winner Alison Janney made organisers cut back to the ceremony so she could see who would win the next award. It was Noah Wyle, for his performance in The Pitt.
Janney, who made an instantly meme-able facial expression when she was announced as the best supporting actress in a drama, says she was "genuinely shocked" by her win because of how big of a deal The Pitt has become
"We really didn't think it was going to go my way. So I felt just excited and relaxed," she says.
She was, she says, "100% sure I wasn't gonna win".
Janney adds: "I didn't have to go through that at all today. It was lovely getting ready for this event and this is a great surprise."

The nominations included:
"To my favorite actor in this room, my love, my best friend, my partner, the very pregnant Kaley Cuoco. I love you more than anything, and our family is the crown jewel of my life," Pelphrey says in his acceptance speech, as Cuoco, who was nominated in 2021 and 2022 for her work in The Attendant, tears up.
Actresses Rachel Sennott and Odessa A'Zion presented the award.

The nominations included:
"We want to thank all our loved ones who support us and let us go off into the Scottish Highlands and play with weird things," British Alan Cumming, the host, says as he accepts the award alongside others who worked on the show.
He also urges Americans to register to vote.
The award was presented by the cast of the rebooted Baywatch.

O'Flynn says that Patricia's "awkwardness and her bravery and humour" resonated with audiences.
"I think everyone just has felt like Patricia in that way," she says.
She's also been pleasantly surprised by "an army" of people turned up dressed as Patricia at this year's DragonCon, saying it was "insane".
"So I'm excited to see Halloween and all the antlers come out and take over the world," she joked.
Speaking to the BBC, the British actress had a message for everyone back home: "Just to our family and friends, we did it. It's great. I don't know what to say. I don't know."
