The team resigned from the league that year so its players could go to war. The team never played again.
Hawkshaw is a small village north of Bury in Greater Manchester. But between 1914 and 1918, 167 men fought in the Great War and 40 of them died; double the national average. ![]() Jonathan Ali But who were these men? Jonathan Ali, a BBC reporter and local historian decided to investigate. After ten years of research he has brought the faded photographs of men on the wall of a chapel, back to life.
