"Ricky Gervais was here and filmed for nearly a week shooting his latest film." The GCR has also been used for 'Bronson', 'The Hours', 'Enigma', and TV programmes like 'Miss Marple'. BBC Leicester's Martin Ballard spoke to Debbie Williams, the Chief Executive, to find out why the company chose Leicestershire to launch their Film Friendly campaign... Help playing audio/video "So many of the films we finance are shot here at the Great Central Railway – it's a fantastic location. We have found that film crews do come into the region and do take to it." Other films Debbie mentions that have been shot in Leicestershire are forthcoming films Pelican Budd and Skeletons. "It has an incredible atmosphere here, and we always get so much positive feedback from the film crews about how well they're looked after, how well the location looks on screen as well. "We've always found Leicestershire a great place to work and it felt fitting that we launched this initiative with Leicestershire promotions."
Local TalentDebbie believes that it's good old fashioned Midland manners that attracts film companies to the county. "We positively welcome the companies and we look after them when they're here." EM Media also co-funds some films. "We have a burgeoning film industry within this region anyway and there is exceptional talents already based in this region. "So certainly we're seeing stars who live and work here everyday on the global stage. "These other films coming in is all part of generating the industry and growing the industry here, which makes work for the crew, the facilities companies and also acting talent directors and writers. "There's a real melting pot of talent here anyway and that's part of the attraction when crews come here. They know they don't have to bring a crew member to do every job, they know they can hire locally." Debbie believes that the films EM Media have supported in 2007 and 2008 has contributed around 32 million to the local economy. She also feels that it's a growing industry. "We absolutely welcome more and more Bollywood projects here, it's absolutely the right environment." The organisation is always looking for unusual locations - it could be your home? last updated: 14/07/2009 at 10:57 SEE ALSOYou are in: Leicester > Places > Places Features > Lights, Camera, Action! |
