The audience were treated to a making-of documentary and a question & answer session with some of the crew. Both provided a greater understanding of all the work that they undertook filming, writing and editing the film themselves. Supported by Phoenix Arts, Soft Touch and Take Over Radio, the Reel Crew were given the initial brief ‘My Leicester’. They then developed a short story around the tensions and interactions that exist between teenage groups in the city. With a great twist at the end, the film challenges both the stereotypes enforced by different teen factions and the preconceptions of an older audience about teenagers in general. The project has offered a rare opportunity for young people interested in the film industry to learn valuable vocational skills.  | | Everyone collects their certificates. |
Crew member Ellie Gallagher felt that whilst there were creative opportunities for activities like theatre and music in Leicester, the ‘Teenage Kicks’ project was funded by UK Film Council HI8US First Light and Crime Beat Leicester is unparalleled in the city in the experience it provided. From an audience perspective, the film was enthusiastically received, witty and stylishly put-together with an attention grabbing soundtrack.
