This time it's bigger than ever, as 2,200 runners will be pounding the streets of the city to raise money for local charities. It's taking place on Sunday 19 October 2008 and will start at Victoria Park.
This year's Leicester marathon will start and finish at Victoria Park following a route through the city centre and some of Leicestershire's beautiful countryside. Help playing audio/video Runners will be able to take in many of Leicester's spots of historical interest, as well as witnessing new developments around the city. The route will be suitable for both fitness freaks and first time runners and there is even an option to just run half of the 26 miles and 385 yards! ![]() Cheering from the sidelines Marathon organiser Christian Wiekert-Picker says he's passionate about running, but the race has been tough to put together: "It's been hell and high water really to organise a race in the city centre, because you've got all the logistics problems and all the road closures as well, that you've got to take into account." It'll be worth it in the end though, as the Leicester Marathon will still supporting three local charities - LOROS, Rainbows and St John's Ambulance.
