Girls Football

Accrington Girls Soccer Academy

By Paul Chadwick
The Under 16s finish second in the League after taking the leaders - Haslingden - all the way.

U11s:

AGSA A 10-0 AGSA B

Derby day in Accrington and everyone was eagerly awaiting this clash of both AGSA teams yet despite a good effort from the girls in the B team they couldn't quite match their slightly elder counterparts.

The game started well for the B team who pushed from the off but the first goal came on seven mins when Megan D brought the ball from defence and lashed in a shot past Amber K to make it 1-0.

Two more goals from Carrie I followed, then a half volley from Hayley L made it 4-0 before Carrie I completed her hat-trick to make it 5-0 half time.

The two teams changed their line ups in the second half but it was the same old story for the B team despite some good runs from Katie D, Jade S & Gemma G they couldn't quite get past keeper Lucy C. Vicky B was the first to score in the second half with a left foot drive into the bottom corner. Next Ciara B got her first goal since the begining of March, Vicky B got her second then Ciara - who was voted Player of the Match - got another before Millie C got number 10.

If it hadn't been for the good saves from Sophie B in the second half which earned her Player of the Match for the B team the score could have been greater.

The Under 12s lost 1-5 to Lammack with Abigail Duxbury scoring for AGSA.

AGSA U14s v Barnoldswick

This was played on a small pitch which probably favoured us as we only had 10 players. After some early exchanges when both teams had chances, we went ahead after Lauran W set up Kerry B to finish clinically.

The second goal quickly followed when Kerry B grabbed her second after a mix-up in the Barnoldswick defence. A third was added before half time when Megan S pounced on a poor clearance from the goalkeeper and hit a first time shot from 25 yards into an empty net.

Half time: 3 – 0

The second half continued in a similar vein and Lauran W finished coolly past the keeper. A fifth goal soon followed when Hannah F ran onto a through ball and slid it past the keeper. Hannah F got her second when she reacted fastest to a defensive slip. Megan S got her second goal when the replacement Barnoldswick keeper pushed her cross into her own net. Hannah F rounded off a good all round team performance with a well taken hat-trick goal.

Full time: 8 - 0

Under 16s:

Haslingden 2 Accrington 2

Our penultimate league game of the season saw us take on the League leaders Haslingden at their ground where they had been unbeaten in three years. It was a physical encounter between the top two sides in the league with neither creating any clear cut chances. Towards the end of the first half, a sustained period of Accrington pressure led to a series of corners that finally led to Heather B scrambling the ball over the line for the opening goal. Accrington went into the interval 1-0 up!

The second half was much the same. However, a harsh hand-ball decision was given against Accrington and Haslingden converted the penalty. Accrington pushed forward and when Keara B was fouled five yards outside the area, Amy stepped up to take the free-kick. It sailed into the roof of the net!

More chances followed but in the final minute of injury time Accrington failed to deal with the bouncing ball and a Haslingden forward pounced to make the game all-square. A fantastic game and one which either side could have won in the end. Haslingden win the league and Accrington finish second.
