Canada's first Gaeltacht area was officially opened in June 2007. Aralt Mac Giolla Chainnigh talks about the historic occasion and the plans for the future.
There is now a ‘Gaeltacht’ in Ontario, Canada which was officially opened on 16th June 2007. Karen Kirby spoke to Aralt Mac Giolla Chainnigh, who was a founder of the project before the Gaeltacht opened. He explains what inspired the project and their plans for the future including Irish classes and other cultural activities. First Aralt explains a Belfast man’s involvement with the project.
Eoghan Ó Néill caught up with Aralt Mac Giolla Chainnigh after the official opening of the Gaeltacht to find out what happened and who was present at this historical event.
