Les Grandes Chansons

The sound of France, coming to you on Blas this summer.

In this new series, Lucinda Glynn explores the life and times of French singer-songwriters. Every Thursday from July 5th, we bring you a selection of songs that were composed during the golden era of French Music. From Femmes Fatales to Agents Provacateurs, what inspired these singers to perform and record these great songs? What do these chansons tell us about French society and culture at the time? We kick off the series with the man who reinvented the French chanson, and sold more than 100 million records, Charles Aznavour or France’s answer to Frank Sinatra, as he is often called. If you would like to hear more about the “je ne sais quoi” of these singers join us every Thursday on Blas.
