Enid Greenwood lived at Goodmanham near Market Weighton in the 1960's. | | Enid Greenwood |
Her father and her husband recorded the final years at Market Weighton railway station on cine-film. There were no domestic video cameras in the 1960's and people recorded family events on miniature movie film, called cinefilm, instead. Mrs. Greenwood and her family made a special journey from Goodmanham to Market Weighton on the evening of Saturday November 27th 1965 to see the final passenger train at Market Weighton station. The fortieth anniversary of the final train took place on November 27th 2005. | | Philip Dixon |
On the anniversary we asked some people to tell us what had happened on the railway's final day. The last but one train was steam hauled. This was unusual. In the 1960's diesels normally operated on the route.
The then 15 year old Philip Dixon, who was a student at Hymers College in Hull, was on board the train from Hull to York, which was hauled by B1 class loco. No. 61306. |
