It was a very frightening and confusing time for me, bombs were falling on our neighbourhood. My Dad was away in the army (Somerset Light Infantry) and we were staying at my Grandparents house 20, Studholm Street, Peckham, London SE.15.The house is no longer there, sadly) My Grandfather was carrying me on his shoulder out into the garden and down to the air-raid shelter. I was put onto the top bunk and I remember looking down to see my mother on the bed under me holding a tiny baby. That was my sister Joyce who is two years younger than me. I was two at the time and still have that memory as fresh in my mind today.
