About This Event
As the climax of a day of Total Immersion in the imagination of Tove Jansson, the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Principal Guest Conductor explore the cultural context and enduring legacy of Jansson’s life and work. Sibelius’s luminous seascape lays the scene for the premiere of Finnish composer Outi Tarkiainen’s new homage to Jansson, using images as well as Jansson’s own writing to create a vivid sonic portrait.
Finally, there’s a special screening of Seasons in Moominvalley – a film created from Jansson’s own illustrations, with Lauri Porra’s captivating score performed live by the full BBC Symphony Orchestra. It’s both a commemoration and a celebration of a unique artistic personality: a magical ending to our day-long dive into the imagination of a woman who lived and created on no terms but her own.
Tickets on general sale from 24 April.
