The North House Gallery is the venue for the first ever UK showing of Alan Turnbull's printmaking, having previously had major exhibitions in Russia. The gallery will have examples from a number of his projects, including 'Etchings after Van Gogh', 'Nabokov into Print' and 'The Poet in Exile'. 'Etchings after Van Gogh' was a two year project that saw Turnbull travel to France and the places that were the inspiration for the great man's paintings. These range from roads to bridges and avenues that Turnbull has turn captured in his own etchings. 'Nabokov in Print' is based on the works of writer Vladimir Nabokov, who is probably best known for his novel, Lolita. Turnbull uses Nabokov's themes to create etchings that explore images of fantasy, dream and nostalgia. 'The Poet in Exile' prints take inspiration from a number of poets that Turnbull discovered whilst on his visits to Russia and are his most recent work.
