Throughout 2007, North House Gallery will be showcasing a number of landscape artists at their premises in Manningtree. Hot on the heels of the established etcher, Norman Ackroyd, comes an artist from the other end of the experience spectrum. James Hutchinson only graduated from St Martin's College three years ago and will be making his solo exhibition debut at the venue from Saturday, 24 March. Originally from Dorset, but now living in Suffolk, Hutchinson's oil paintings take inspiration from Cezanne, although increasingly he says he feels that Picasso is 'looking over his shoulder'. Much of James' artistic interest is in the outdoors and the changing seasons. Woodland images are particular prominent in his work, especially the views you get as you look through the trees to the sky, which creates a lovely fragmentation of colours. Also on offer are some of his earlier experimental work with acrylics and monoprints that will allow you to trace the creative development of his formative years.
