Canadian born Cynthia Howell has been exhibiting for over five decades and has been influenced by the likes of Matisse, Rembrandt, Nicholas de Stael and Keith Vaughan. Much of Howell's work have traditionally featured paths and churches from around her adopted Suffolk, but more recently flowers have become an ever increasing feature in her work. Stephen Dunn, the Exhibition Registrar at the Tate Modern is a big fan of Cynthias work. "Her paintings are vigorous, powerful and decisive, and het simultaneously seductive, sensitive and tender too." "The exhibition is united by a simplicity, which belies the complexity of thought, feeling and process". During her career Cynthia has exhibited regularly at the Tower of London, Quay Theatre and Chappel Gallery. The exhibition opens on 14th October and runs until 5th November. |
