Boiler scrappage scheme: Is your boiler eligible?
Dom Littlewood met a One Show viewer who saved money on the cost of a new boiler thanks to the government's boiler scrappage scheme.

The scheme offers up to four hundred pounds if you'll replace your old 'G' rated boiler with a new 'A' rated energy-efficient boiler.
However, there is only enough money to help 125,000 households so it's best to act quick.
How can I tell if my boiler is eligible?
The boiler scrappage scheme is only in operation in England at the moment. Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are considering launching similar schemes.
If your boiler has a permanent pilot light then it's very likely to be 'G' rated. If it is gas fired and over 15 years old or oil fired and over twenty-five years old, then it is also likely to be eligible.
Alternatively, ask a professional who will be able to tell you whether your boiler is eligible.
How does the scheme work?
You must have a working band 'G' or equivalent boiler (gas, LPG or oil).
Apply to the Energy Saving Trust (EST) with the company name, address and contact details of your chosen installer and amount they've quoted (this could be anything between £2,000 and £3,000) and the make and name of your old boiler.
The EST will then issue you with a voucher. See www.energysavingtrust.org.uk for application details.
Arrange for the boiler to be replaced with either a band 'A' rated boiler or renewable heating system.
On completion of the work, you must send proof of installation of the new system to the Energy Saving Trust along with a declaration about the boiler that has been replaced, signed by both yourself and the installer.
The householder pays the bill in full to the installer and then claims the £400 back from the EST.
And you could save even more...
Also: Leading energy companies Southern Electric, N Power, British Gas and Eon, are now matching the boiler scrappage scheme's £400 saving. Therefore, if you're eligible for the scheme and one of these companies installs your boiler, you could save £800.
And don't forget, modern boilers use less energy than older models, so your gas bill should be reduced.
