The testes are the site of gamete production in males.

The male gamete is called sperm. It is produced in the seminiferous tubules and testosterone is produced in the interstitial cells.

Sperm are motile (able to swim) however they need a fluid to swim in.

The prostate gland and seminal vesicles produce this fluid, which:

• provides the sperm with energy to swim
• maintains the mobility and viability of the sperm as it swims towards the oviduct
