Police are investigating whether a man jumped or fell when he plunged from a pier seriously injuring himself. It was first thought the 20-year-old had taken part in "tombstoning" when he plunged from South Parade Pier in Southsea, Hampshire. He plummeted about 9m (30ft) into 1m (3.38ft) deep water and hit the bottom causing severe neck and head injuries. Solent Coastguard warned about the dangers of tombstoning, which involves diving from a height into water.
