Abolition season on BBC World Service

Between the 15th and the 19th Centuries up to 15 million people were forced to migrate from the African continent to the New World, where they were enslaved.

The life and work was often brutal. Slaves had no possessions and no identity.

March 25, 2007, sees the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the British Transatlantic slave trade.

BBC World Service's season of programmes looks at the story of slavery; the beginnings of its abolition; and the legacy that slavery left around the globe.
