Iran seeks friends in Africa

The Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is back in Africa.

This time he is travelling to Zimbabwe and Uganda.

Last year President Ahmadinejad visited Kenya where he struck a deal to export crude oil to Kenya; and in 2008, Iran agreed to share nuclear technology with Nigeria to help increase the country's electricity production.

So why a new trip to Africa now? Focus on Africa's Sophie Ikenye put the question to Sanam Vakil, Professor of Middle Eastern Studies at the John Hopkins School of International Studies in Italy.
