David Hedison

Interview with David Hedison

Character actor David Hedison who has appeared in two James Bond films and a plethora of TV programmes over the years met fans and signed autographs in Swindon recently. Listen to our interview.

The latest in Swindon movie memorabilia store Infinitely Better's star signing events brought popular actor David Hedison to the town on Thursday 5th May.

David, 78, is a familiar face on our screens having appeared in numerous films and television series during his career. He first came to prominence in 1958 monster movie The Fly and went on to star in four seasons of 60s submarine-in-peril TV series Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.

1973 saw him star alongside Roger Moore in the James Bond film Live and Let Die. David played Bond's CIA associate Felix Leiter - a role he returned to 16 years later for License to Kill, Timothy Dalton's second and final outing as 007.

Throughout the 70s and 80s David popped up in seemingly every US TV drama going including The A-Team, The Fall Guy, Dynasty, The Colbys, Murder She Wrote and The Love Boat.

During his visit to Swindon, David kindly took time out to chat to BBC Wiltshire's Daniel Garrett about his long and successful career.

I think some director could make a move telling that with the death of Admiral Nelson, seaview stop working. Then, 40 years later (more or less 2010) a difficult mission makes the Nelson Institute of Marine Research put seaview in action again. Then, the retired crewmen of seaview are convoked to participate in one more adventure. The actors, then, must be David Hedison, Del Monroe, Terry Becker, Robert Dowdell. Unfortunitly, Richard Basehart and Paul Trinka have already died.I will love to see these actors in action again in seaview.

Growing up watching Voyage au Fond des Mers David Hedison has been in my heart ever since I was 9 years old. I finally met him at a SciFi convention in New Jersey 12 years ago. What a gentleman ! So nice and warm even though he must have spent years hearing different women tell him how he was important to them and how they love him. All he best and a good health to you David mon beau capitaine !

David Hedison is truly an asset to his craft. Although he has never won an Emmy, or the like, actors of today, can learn so much from his style, and technique. He takes his roles seriously, and makes any character he portrays, believable. Hollywood found a gem of a talent. May he continue to be involved in many more projects througout the years. I thought Mr. Garrett, did an excellent job in interviewing Mr Hedison. It was a treat listening to it.

I really enjoyed the interview with David Hedison, now that I also know he is of Armenian descent, like me. I don't miss any of his films. Lately I started watching the series 'The Young and the Restless' which I usually don't. I do now because David is in it. He is a great guy.
