I was especially impressed with his first rule: Start with 3%. Therefore, I an trying my best to set up a target for the day and achieve it within a time limit. The idea of starting out small and building it up continually is probably the main principle behind every success story. Those Were The Days, Buckinghamshire in the 40’s, 50’s and 60’sA wonderful trip down memory lane – delightful! Alas reminding me when I passed a scholarship to Ware Grammar School in 1948 I couldn’t do the Arithmetic exam paper and I still couldn’t now! A Dream Come True – Maureen LeeA quick good story – very easy to get into, characters seemed real. The only down side, I wanted to know the next episode in her story – how she coped alone, was anyone there to see her through the ups and downs. Chickenfeed – Minette WaltersI received this book in the post on Saturday, and I finished it by tea time, I just wish it had a 1000 pages as it was brilliant. Lily, A Ghost Story – Adele GerasThe story unfolded very quickly before you had thoughts on picturing the characters in your mind and then the story was over before it had really began and I felt it seemed to steam roller before the story even got started. A fantastic read that I could not put down. Most enjoyable. Very eerie. The Poison in the Blood – Tom HollandAn easy way to read mythology. Not too long that it became boring. The Book Boy – Joanna TrollopeGood short read. Nice balance showing the difficulty to read and bullying. The book is about a married woman who has a big insensitive man as a husband, two grumpy teenagers as children and a dead-end job. She also has a dilemma: a lack of confidence has stemmed from being illiterate. Handicapped by it, she’s reduced to an invisible person whom everybody accustomed to take for granted. Meeting her son’s unpromising friend takes a very unexpected turn where those two helped each other to overcome their shortcomings. A simple story did highlight an everyday problem: bullied frightened wife, a communication breakdown between parents and children and tyrannical unsupportive husband. The end was a bit disappointing as it failed to give a zest and humour. Living With Ghosts – Paul GaterFairly good read Survive the worst and aim for the best – Kerry KatonaBrilliant book! Really a fantastic read. Couldn’t put it down and really annoyed when I finished it as it was so interesting. She is so honest and I felt like I know her. Brilliantly Written loved it! The Thief – Ruth RendellA most enjoyable book from one of my favourite authors. Had you on the edge of your seat as you just knew that the main character ‘Polly’ was tying herself in knots with her lying and stealing and she certainly got her comeuppance in the end. A good book from start to finish. Ruth Rendell cleverly creates her characters to get the reader reading to discover what is going to happen next. I would have liked a couple more chapters so as to not be left to imagine the reactions of the three main characters following Polly’s final act of uncontrollable revenge! Un-put-downable! Burning Ambition – Allen CarrGood Book! To Shed a Light – Peter AspinallOk a bit depressing. Started Ok, got a bit boring. last updated: 16/10/07 SEE ALSOYou are in: Beds Herts and Bucks > Local Radio > Local Radio Features > Virtual Book Club Reviews |
