All across the nation... you can feel the expectation!

BBC Three Counties Ian Stringer and Big George's bid for pop stardom continues!

All across the Nation - you can feel the expectation! Well you certainly can in Beds, Herts and Bucks as BBC Three Counties Ian Stringer and Big George Webley prepare for the release of their version of "Is This The Way To Amarillo" for the World Cup.

Ian Stringer, Tony Christie and Big George
Ian Stringer, Tony Christie & Big George

The song, sung by Tony Christie, has already received airplay on Chris Moyle's Radio One Breakfast Show, and at football grounds around the country.

We caught up with Ian as his bid for pop stardom continues!

This must all be a bit surreal for you?

Oh yes it's all crazy, brilliant - but absolutely crazy! Never it my wildest dreams could I have dreamt this. I'm just enjoying every second, one day I know I'll look back on all this and then it'll hit home just what's happened, because at the moment it all seems just too bizarre.

It just goes to show that if you've got an idea or a dream and if you give it 100% then anything is possible, and that's the case here, I had an idea and after talking it over with Big George, he pushed me to get on with it and that's what I did.

So when can we buy the CD?

The CD goes on sale on the Monday 29th May - in all good record stores as they say! All proceeds from the sale of the record are going to Sports Aid. Then its fingers crossed - what could be better than our record at Number One in the Charts, Sports Aid making loads of money and England winning the World Cup - what a story to tell my grandkids! Whether the song goes to Number One in the charts or bombs completely, that's up to the public now.

It's a cheesy World Cup Song which we hope the fans will sing on the terraces during the World Cup - buy it if you like it, don't buy it if you don't - all the money will go to charity and we're having the time of our lives doing it.

Has the video been filmed yet?

We're recording the video next Thursday and it's going to be great, Tony Christie will be there - but it's all top secret!

So will we be watching you on Top of the Pops soon?

If the single does well and they ask us to be on the show - then of course I'll be there!

(Is This The Way) To The World Cup
Lyrics by Big George and Ian Stringer

    All across the nation
    You can taste the expectation
    Finish what we started
    ENGLAND the lion hearted
Every single player (woe oh oh oh oh)
Holds our destiny (woe oh oh oh oh)
    and they’ll all be heroes
    on plasma screen TVs
    ENGLAND WIN THE WORLD CUP
    Dig Deep, don’t come unstuck
    ENGLAND WIN THE WORLD CUP
    Stevie G score for me
    ENGLAND WIN THE WORLD CUP
40 years, who gives a “Oi”
    ENGLAND WIN THE WORLD CUP
    Beckham scores a penalty
    Every fan is singing
    It’s a ROAR - ENGLAND’S winning
    Let’s go down the local
Have a laugh and get all vocal
We’re gonna cruise the group stage (woe oh oh oh oh)
Yes we’ll win all three (woe oh oh oh oh)
    the last 16’s easy
‘cause we’ve got Wayne Rooney eeeeee
    ENGLAND WIN THE WORLD CUP
    Michael Owen’s always good luck
    ENGLAND WIN THE WORLD CUP
    Sven’ll dance like old Nobby
    ENGLAND WIN THE WORLD CUP
40 years, who gives a “Oi”
    ENGLAND WIN THE WORLD CUP
Then knight them all Your Majesty
