Paul Potts

Paul's got talent

In a moment of madness I suggested to my mum that I'd take her to see Paul Potts for a birthday treat. It then dawned on me that I would have to sit through the concert as well!

I must admit I wasn't sure about it, as the music isn't really my cup of tea. I can say, however, that by the end of the evening Paul had won me over!

Paul, who shot to fame in 2007 by winning ITV's Britain's Got Talent, was very unassuming as he shyly shuffled on to the stage.

He was welcomed by a packed Regent audience of varying age ranges, and by the look on his face you got the feeling that he still cannot believe this is all happening to him.

Once on stage, Paul soon had the audience on his side by revealing he supported Ipswich Town Football Club in the early 80's.

Sisono fatti tutti mala

Paul's set included versions of REM's Everybody Hurts in Italian, Maria from West Side Story, Schubert's Ave Maria, Music of the Night from the Phantom of the Opera and Cavatina, which was dedicated to his wife. The audience especially loved his Maria Lanza medley from The Student Prince.

Paul was ably supported by Natasha Marsh, who told us how Paul had blossomed with each performance.

Natasha gave us an operatic rendition of Queen's Who Wants To Live Forever and You'll Never Walk Alone, which she dedicated to Paul. The pair sang Act One of La Traviata together whilst enjoying a glass of champagne.

Paul's anecdotes between songs where quite funny, though sometimes he did appear uncomfortable talking on stage. However, I think this made him all the more endearing to the audience.

The fantastic Paul Potts Orchestra provided the music throughout the show. When introducing the band Paul said he can't believe he has his own orchestra!

Finally Paul thanked everybody for voting for him, buying his CD and then having listened to it, still coming to see him live.

Saving the best for last

His performance of Time to Say Goodbye, which he dedicated to the audience, was met with loud applause and cheers from the crowd, who shouted for more.

Paul came back on stage and teased the audience by asking us if he's forgotten something. This carried on for a short while before he eventually sang Nessum Dorma, much to the delight of the crowd.

This resulted in a standing ovation and seeing Paul's face at the applause he received it was clear that he was genuinely touched by the audience's appreciation of him.

I must admit I had a lump in my throat too.

All in all a surprisingly enjoyable night out.

I saw paul at the Apollo last Sunday. My son and daugter treated me for mothers day. He was fantastic all the way though the concert. He was genuine and appreiciated the audiences attention. He has not let the fame fo to his head, and it was obvious how much love hi had for his wife. Please paul do not change, you truely deserved to win Britains got Talent, and I as a fan for life. I can not stop playing his CD's, he is completly adictivee. I love all the opera singers but Paul is the tops!! Kathy Wiles Chadwell Heath

Paul Potts is the best in the world, his voice has an aoutstanding tenor range, but a gentle velvet touch with it that makes him better to listen to than the so called opera singers who many are needled he came up in two minutes, what they have not achieved in years.
