The Tweenies

The Tweenies wowed the Regent

Tweenies toyshop full of treats

The Tweenies thrilled the Ipswich Regent audience with fun-packed live show The Enchanted Toyshop, providing top entertainment for young children whilst teaching a valuable lesson along the way.

This was the show's first appearance in Ipswich, following on from their appearance in the nationwide Christmas tour as part of a CBeebies show. The Tweenies are yet to be confirmed for the 2007 Christmas shows, but based on the response from the Suffolk crowd they would be a popular choice.

The excitement was growing even before the Tweenies arrived on stage, and when the famous theme tune played and Max's voice welcomed all to the show - the audience erupted into claps and cheers.

"You can see the Tweenies for real and not on the telly!"

Bella, Milo, Fizz and Jake bounded onto the stage to wild applause. They quickly burst into the first of many of the show's songs with The Rhythm of The Music.

Max then made an appearance, carrying a surprise hidden under a blanket. It was the surprise that formed the basis of the show: an Enchanted Toyshop.

Bella unveiled the toyshop that her Grandma has given it to her. Each of the Tweenies took their turn to magically enter the toyshop and play with the toy of their dreams.

However, the Tweenies all got a lot more from their time in the toyshop than just the opportunity to play with toys!

Better than telly

The children were dancing and singing along with the songs throughout the performance. My young daughter, an avid fan, particularly enjoyed the show, commenting: "I loved it because you can see the Tweenies for real and not on the Telly!." Definitely a satisfied customer.

As their theme tune states, the audience were invited to 'come along and play' when Tweenie Bella went into pantomime mode, as the children were encouraged to call 'over there' when friendly mice Sniff and Snuff from the Mousehole Theatre appeared on stage.

As is often the case on their TV shows, the show consisted of an important message for the audience. This show taught that it's what's inside that counts, and not to judge things by the way they look.

This was told in a gentle way and not in a manner that detracted from the fun elements of the show, as faithful dog Doodles recapped the story near the end of the performance.

With the Teletubbies appearing a short distance away at Trinity Park, Ipswich has been the place to be for CBeebies stars. Add to this the children's shows that have taken place at The New Wolsey this week and its been a half term to remember for the youngsters of Suffolk.
