EventsYou are in: Suffolk > Entertainment > Events > Just Us ![]() The beaches bungalow, Shingle Street Just Us‘Just Us’, are two sisters who paint purely for enjoyment. They are mainly self taught and, apart from school certificates, a foundation year at the Open College of Art, and the odd night-school course neither of them have had any training.. "Painting is in our blood and was passed down from our father," says Janet who has been painting for as long as she can remember and was always thought to be the ‘arty’ one. Meanwhile sister, Patricia discovered her skills later in life and has proved to be equally talented. "We have been painting together now for a number of years, both of us are considered to be the ‘older’ generation but not quite yet in our dotage and very young at heart," she says. ![]() Evening stroll The sisters are members of the Society for All Artists (in fact, Patricia is the local Regional Co-ordinator) and belongs to the Hartley Art Group and Gravesend Art Group. These Groups hold exhibitions regularly and they have also successfully submitted the sister's work to the Rainham Art Gallery, The Kent County Show and venues both locally and abroad. They have accepted many commissions along the way for their artwork. "We fell in love with Suffolk a good few years ago, following a painting holiday, and have revisited many times to sit and paint in its quiet tranquility which we always find so comforting," says Janet. After spending every year holidaying in Suffolk, whilst their children were growing up, a relative purchased a house just outside Aldeburgh and since, then, Patricia’s mother-in-law has moved to Leiston, this means that the area has become even more accessible. ![]() Princess street, Norwich. "We feel so at home in Suffolk that it seems appropriate to embark on our first ‘solo’ exhibition here," says Patricia. We work in oils, watercolours, acrylic and mixed media. Included in this exhibition are many views of Suffolk as well as many other subjects in a range of styles both traditional and contemporary. The sisters aim to offer ‘Something for Everyone’ and hope you will take the time to visit the event. The exhibition is FREE, open 10am – 5pm daily from 23rd to 28th September at the Aldeburgh Cinema Gallery. last updated: 17/11/2008 at 14:07 SEE ALSOYou are in: Suffolk > Entertainment > Events > Just Us |
