Something for the weekend?

If you ever find yourself wondering what to do entertainment-wise at the weekend, then the Friday Club on BBC Radio Stoke can give you the answers! A panel of listeners will review the best new films and books, and give you all the soap gossip.

The Friday Club on BBC Radio Stoke's Breakfast show is a club you'll definitely want to be a member of if you enjoy going to the cinema, watching soaps or curling up with a good book.

Every week at 9am, Pete Morgan and his selected panel of listeners will review the soaps, brand new film releases, and a selection of this summer's best sellers:

Jackie and Steph

Our soap queens: Jackie and Steph

  • Soaps - meet Jackie and Steph, local hairdressers with their fingers on the pulse of all the latest gossip from soap-land including Corrie, 'Enders, and Emmerdale!
  • Films - Gaz and the Flick Chicks, Alana and Hannah, give you their honest opinions on the latest releases at the cinema, popcorn not included!
  • Books - the Belles are back for another Summer! Amy, Judy and Steph will give you the lowdown on this Summer's best-sellers, looking at everything from beach-read romances to spine chilling thrillers!

This weeks show

Movie reviewers Jon and Alana were in to talk to Stuart George about what they'd seen at the cinema this week, and the best horror films for Halloween.

Alana and Jon

Movie reviewers Alana and Jon

Jon saw 'Zombieland' and said although it's form the same Zom-Rom-Com genre it's not in the same league as Shaun of the Dead. He said it's just a splatter comedy, and doesn't have the same emotional resonance as 'Shaun'. Although, there is a wonderful cameo by a Hollywood star playing himself (but you'll have to see the movie to find out who.

Alana saw romantic comedy 'A Couples Retreat', which she said surprised her. It's based on the same idea as Sex and the City...four different couples and four different relationships. She said she expected it to be predictable but it was very watchable and laugh a minute.
