Jim Hawkins - Loud Play

Jim Hawkins loves his music pumped up, and for three hours a week on BBC Radio in the Midlands, he proves it. He plays rock-pop from the sixties to the present day on his Saturday show

Jim loves his ska too. To look back over the history of ska, see the links on the right-hand side of this page.

Jim Hawkins biog

Jim Hawkins has worked at a diverse range of BBC and commercial radio stations including BBC Radio 4 and Century FM.
Right now, his day job is with BBC Radio Shropshire. There, he was shortlisted for the 2006 Sony Radio Academy Speech Broadcaster of the Year Award.

But rock-pop is his love.

Off the air, he plays guitar, takes photographs (some of which have been published in national magazines) and collects old radios, record players, tape recorders and unusual vintage vinyl and 78s.

Jim Hawkins has interviewed tons of big names: "The most remarkable ones were Gene Simmons from Kiss, and Steve Cropper and Donald 'Duck' Dunn, who were touring with the Original Blues Brothers Band, but who played on all the great soul classics released on Stax and Atlantic".

Besides broadcasting, Jim Hawkins has also worked for a disability-rights group, been a pianist in a hotel restaurant, a stagehand and run the coconut shy on Brighton's Palace Pier!
