School Day 'News Team'

Endon High students took over the newsreaders jobs to find out what it's like to read the news. Read on to find out how it went...

Here's the views of the news team ...

Kate

Today I had to get up at the ungodly hour of 6am! Me and Joe had to be at BBC Radio Stoke for quarter to seven as our first bulletin was at 7:30am. We spent most of the time reviewing headlines and stories from previous bulletins and adjusting them to suit our needs. Lisa Pettifer helped us a lot by adding audio and driving the desk (playing audio clips) when we read news on air.

When I read my first news bulletin I was really nervous but as soon as it was over I felt really proud!

Today has been a lot of fun and I've enjoyed working to deadlines and knowing whatever happens I still have to make the bulletin!

Rosa

Today has been very successful and exciting, but above all fun!

I had the privilege of being involved in the Politics Debate and also being a newsreader from 1pm till 7pm. I’ve since been rewriting my bulletins using the BBC computer system.

Everyone has been really friendly from Radio Stoke, and being able to watch the professionals reporting was especially helpful. If I had the opportunity I would definitely choose to do it again.

Overall, I think everyone involved with BBC Radio Stoke during the past few weeks has found it a great experience.

Joe

After arriving at Radio Stoke far too early for my liking I had the job of arranging a news report within the next half hour. Straight in at the deep end! I finished my report and then had to present it. To say I was nervous is a understatement but when I started speaking I began to calm down.

After reading the news I felt a buzz that I have only felt before after getting off a roller coaster. I really enjoyed this and it carried on all the way through the day. I loved pushing for deadlines and presenting, it was a great feeling.

I felt very excited and very nervous but when I started to speak I wasn't that nervous.

Sam

Today, I think, has been a very successful day. I have thoroughly enjoyed it and by the looks of everyone else around me so have they.

I have enjoyed it because I have been in a situation where I can explore and also I am around weird technology that I have never used before. Most of all I have really loved being on the radio (news reading), because, 1) it's a new experience, 2) working with excitable, friendly, helpful people and finally because the thrill of sharing the news with BBC Radio Stoke listeners.

I also would like to thank Lizzie for all her support. I couldn't have done it without her!

Lizzie Meek

It's been nice to have some company on the news desk as it can be lonely when you're working on your own.

I've been impressed with how well the students have been able to re-write stories for the bulletins and decide which stories to use. It's hard enough when you first start out as a journalist, so stepping in for a day must be a real challenge.

Sam and Rosa have been on my shift and they have both been really enthusiastic and not as nervous as I thought they would be. I hope I've been useful to them and given them enough support and not been too bossy.
