School Day with Lamont Howie

James A and James V, two students from Endon High School, co-produced, presented and edited a package each, summing up examples of Endon High Schools input to Schools Day on BBC Radio Stoke.

Here's the views of Lamont Howie and one of his assistants, James V.

Lamont Howie

Throughout the day, I have worked with James A and James V as they co-produced, presented and edited a package each, summing up examples of Endon High Schools input to School Day on BBC Radio Stoke.

James A interviewed breakfast co-presenter Will about his time with breakfast show host, Janine. He included a World Cup preview with a reporter from Baden-Baden in Germany, a general interview with three students on how their day was progressing and a focused piece highlighting parental characteristics adopted by children. James A finished at 1 o'clock and James V took over, immediately interviewing students as they came off-air from the mid-morning show and continuing to piece together the second part of the whole radio day experience. Both stories will be broadcast on the Saturday Breakfast Show.

In between working with the James's, I had a pre-recorded interview with agnostic Kate, muslim Ebrahim and Baptist ministers son Paul about their faith and views on other faiths. The interview will be broadcast on BBC Radio Stoke during the Sunday breakfast show.

It was a great day at Radio Stoke. I learnt about making packages and reports as a presenter and got an inside look into my local radio station. It has been a great experience, and I get to hear myself on the radio!

Lamont showed me how to use the audio editor and helped me with any problems that I had, and showed me how other jobs work as well as producing. I looked at the software that makes everything run smoothly, but it doesn't always turn out that way!!

We have all played different roles, presenting, producing, online, news reading, sports, and everyone had so much to do! I don't think that people always appreciate how much work and effort goes into making Radio Stoke work. But after seeing how much the different teams have to do in such short periods of time I think I have a better idea now than I did before.

Listen to the team in action...
